Felt in the UK

I have just returned from a fantastic four-day trip to Fairfield Mill in the UK.

It was nice to see my own work hanging there at the gallery and to meet and talk to some of the English felters. One of the highlights was a visit to Miss Mary Burkett in her monumental house Isel Hall. 

In one of the rooms we ran into this millefleurs carpet, which I have worked on myself a while ago, in a group-project coordinated by Sheila Smith and directed by Inge Evers. It was great to run into this beautiful project and see the place it found in Miss Burkett's beautiful home.

Felt work

I am currently taking part in a group exhibition "Inspired by Sarah Lechner" in a gallery called "Ruimte" in Gouda. It's a beautiful location and really worth a visit. Some of my houses can be seen there in the window and inside there are some of my "circle" paintings, the exhibition is open until the end of Februari and the gallery itself is open every saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ik maak deel uit van een groepsexpositie "Inspired by Sara Lechner" in galerie "Ruimte" in Gouda.

Een prachtige grote ruimte, zeker de moeite waard om te bezoeken. Er staan wat huisjes van mij in de etalage en binnen hangen een aantal van mijn "cirkel" schilderijen, de tentoonstelling duurt tot eind februari en de galerie is ieder zaterdag open van 11 tot 17 uur.  

Tentoonstelling Hawar

This month, these works at exhibited at the Hawar studio in Olderberkoop, alongside works from other pupils of Sarah Lechner. All this work has been created during or inspired by her workshop in August 2012 and was made with the embellisher. 

Deze werken hangen deze maand op de expositie bij Hawar in Oldeberkoop, samen met werk van andere cursisten van Sara Lechner. Al dit werk is ontstaan of geïnspireerd tijdens haar workshop in augustus 2012 en gemaakt met de punchmachine.

Hierboven zie je een foto van mijn werk zoals dat te zien is in 't Kruithuis van Den Bosch.
De tentoonstelling werd afgelopen zondag feestelijk geopend met het werpen van  honderden vilten kanonskogels.

The exhibition was officially opened on Sunday by throwing hundreds of felt cannonballs.

Er is veel verschillend werk te zien; heel divers en van een hoog niveau. In het museum is ook nog een winkeltje waar wat werk te koop is o.a. een aantal van mijn "motten kasten".

A lot of different work is shown, very diverse and at a high standard. There is also a shop in the museum where some smaller work is for sale including some of my "moth boxes".

Kruithuis Den Bosch, vilt expositie

My work for the exhibition is finished and handed in. To see all the beautiful felt, everyone can come to the opening in Het Kruithuis in 's Hertogenbosch on Sunday 22 January. The exhibit is on until March 4th and it's open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12.00-17.00

Mijn werk voor de tentoonstelling is af en ingeleverd. Om al het prachtige viltwerk te zien kan iedereen naar de opening komen in het Kruithuis in 's Hertogenbosch op zondag 22 januari. De tentoonstelling duurt tot en met 4  maart en is geopend van woensdag t/m zondag van 12.00-17.00.

Tentoonstelling Verzetsmuseum

Ik ben vandaag naar de tentoonstelling "Elke dag een draadje... Borduren in gevangenschap 1940-1945" geweest in het Verzetsmuseum in Amsterdam, zie hier de website. Ik vond de tentoonstelling heel indrukwekkend. 

 "Vrouwen in gevangenschap deden veel moeite om te kunnen borduren. Lappen werden gemaakt van kapotte lakens, kledingstukken of zakdoeken, borduurdraadjes werden bijvoorbeeld uit een gekleurde hoofddoek gepeuterd. Naalden werden gesmokkeld in de zoom van een kledingstuk en verstopt onder het eelt van de handpalm. 

De vrouwen maakten de borduurwerken voor zichzelf én voor elkaar."

De tentoonstelling is nog te zien t/m 22 mei 2012. 

Today I visited the exhibition "A stitch a day... Embroidering in prison 1940-1945" in the Dutch Resistance Museum in Amsterdam, click here for the website. I thought it was really impressive.

"The women would do their utmost to be able to embroider. They stole needles from the guards, ripped off patches from sheets or clothing, and pulled thread out of coloured headscarves. They embroidered for themselves and for one another."

The exhibition is open until May 22 2012.

Tentoonstelling

Vrijdag ben ik naar een prachtige tentoonstelling geweest van Ellen Korth. De tentoonstelling heet Utilité en is te zien in de Bergkerk te Deventer tot 5 juni.
Het gaat over mensen die zich in de beslotenheid van hun eigen huis bezig houden met handwerken. Er is werk te zien en foto's en er is geluidsmateriaal van de interviews. Alles is prachtig vormgegeven.
Ellen is afgelopen najaar bij mij en Nicolien langs geweest, en heeft foto's gemaakt en ons geinterviewed.

Last Friday I went to a beautiful exhibition by Ellen Korth. It's called Utilité and you can see it at the Bergkerk in Deventer until 5 June.
It's about people who occupy themselves with crafting within their own home. On display there is work, pictures and audio material from the interviews. Everything is beautifully designed.
Ellen visited me and Nicolien last fall, and took pictures and we had a chat.
