Thread: small tutorial

I've made this yarn myself on my sewing machine. 

The middle part is made of white ribbon. I stitch the ribbon on my sewing machine with a zigzag stitch. I use a short zigzag, but very wide.

Dit draad maak ik met de naaimachine.

Het middelste gedeelte heeft een ondergrond van wit lint. Dit lint naai ik op de naaimachine met een zigzag steek. Ik gebruik hierbij een vrij dichte steek maar wel heel breed.

 The last piece is zigzagged over a thick woolen yarn. Here I also make the stitches very short, but the width is very large, 4 or 5. So you can change the material you zigzag over, such as ribbons or woolen yarn, but also the top and the bobbin thread I change all the time, so that a different colour or kind of yarn appears all the time. The colours in the middle were a result of using up loads of left-over bobbins. 

 Het laatste stuk is gezigzagd over een wollen dikke draad. Ook hier laat ik de steken dicht op elkaar aansluiten maar de steekbreedte zet ik ook weer heel ruim, op 4 à 5. Je kunt dus wisselen in het materiaal waar je over zigzagt, b.v. lintjes of wollen draad, maar ook met de boven- en de onderdraad wissel ik constant zodat hier steeds een andere kleur of soort draad ontstaat. 

De kleuren in het midden zijn ontstaan door allerlei restjes van spoeltjes op te maken.

Embellisher

One of the nice things about felting with the embellisher is that I can use all kinds of material. For this piece I used fabrics like silk, organza and satin. I also used all kinds of wool, even wool that was wet-felted completely. To add things like velvet ribbon, which I coloured with Sharpies,  I used the sewing machine.

You can also see some embroidery by hand and some with the sewing machine.

Vilt en Kant 1

Ik vind het leuk om zelf kant te maken en dit te verwerken in mijn vilt. Bijvoorbeeld van restjes draad die je tussen twee lagen water oplosbare stof legt. Vervolgens op de naaimachine goed doorstikken, eventueel in een soort patroon zoals hierboven zodat er een samenhang komt tussen de losse draadjes.

I like to make my own lace and use it in felt. For example from leftover bits of yarn, which you put between two layers of water soluble fabric. Then stitch through well with the sewing machine, perhaps in some kind of pattern like in the picture above, to connect the separate bits of yarn.
