Textile Teachers Gathering

My friends and I try to come together at least three times a year. Everytime with a textile related theme and loads of homemade food. This time we did the "double face" knitting technique, which is beautiful on both sides, and great to get rid of old scraps of yarn. 

Zo'n drie keer per jaar proberen ik en mijn vriendinnnen, zowel als textieldocenten, samen te komen. Altijd met een textielgerelateerd onderwerp en veel lekker zelfgemaakt eten. Deze keer hebben we "double face" gebreid, een prachtige techniek die aan twee kanten even mooi is. Een techniek die zich ook prima leent om restjes op te maken.

Kaffe Fassett, 'A Life in Colour'

Last week I visited Kaffe Fassett's amazing and inspiring exhibition 'A Life in Colour' at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London. Some of his paintings are on show as well as many highlights of his work as a knitwear and textile designer and some works made especially for this occasion. I love Kaffe Fassett's use of colour and the way he blends and mixes textures, patterns and colours. The exhibition is on until 29 June 2013, so if you can make it to London you should definitely try to visit!

Where to buy ...colourious!

Last week, I visited Leiden and ran into this beautiful knitting shop. The owner was just moving the 'spring yarns' to the bottom and the 'winter yarns' to the top to prepare for the new season. Great shop to visit, with a really nice selection.

Vorige week kwam ik in Leiden deze prachtige breiwinkel tegen, Ribbels in de Pieterskerk-Choorsteeg. De eigenaresse was net de lentegarens naar beneden aan het verplaatsen en de wintergarens naar boven om voor te bereiden op het nieuwe seizoen. Hele leuke winkel om langs te gaan met een mooie collectie.

Wedding mittens

In 2008 I bought a pattern on the internet for a pair of Finnish mittens, because they reminded ​​me of traditional costumes. It took a while but now they are finished.

In 2008 heb ik een patroon gekocht op internet van een paar Finse wanten, ze deden me zo denken aan klederdracht. Het heeft even geduurd maar ze zijn af.

They are called 'wedding mittens' and you can knit your date and initials in at the bottom. The pattern is still for sale: wedding mittens' pattern, definitely worth taking a look around. There are many more beautiful mittens on this site.

Het zijn zogenaamde 'huwelijkswanten' waar je de datum en de initialen van jezelf aan de onderkant kan inbreien. Het patroon is nog steeds te koop, patroon van de "wedding mittens", zeker de moeite waard om even te gaan kijken. Er staan hele fraaie wanten op deze site.

St. Andrews

In St. Andrews, waar Kate en Will gestudeerd hebben is het hele dorp in de ban van the royal wedding. Dit boek met de breipatronen van de royal wedding is heel grappig, Zie hier.
