Crochet-Haken 3 Bags

After months of crocheting on the train, while visiting friends and family, even in waiting rooms and in cafes I now have such a huge amount of granny squares that I can easily choose the right color to make this big bag I wanted to make.

Because it requires little equipment I can do it basically everywhere.

Ik haak in de trein en in wachtkamers, bij familie en vrienden met een kopje koffie in een cafe echt overal. Het is ook zo makkelijk alles wat je nodig hebt zijn een paar draadjes of een bolletje en een haaknaald. Dit past altijd wel in mijn tas en een patroon heb ik na al die tijd niet meer nodig.

Because I have so many granny squares now, I decided to make a big bag out of them. 

Heb ik zo'n enorme hoeveelheid granny squares dat ik besloot een grote tas te maken.

I rearranged the colours until I liked the way it looked.

I sewed the granny squares together, on the wrong side with a woolen tread.

Then I finished the bag with two crocheted handles and green flannel lining and some handy pockets on the inside made with fabric from the town of Marken, where I have written about here and here.

Dag van de wol

With the ferry across the river the Maas to the town of Oijen, where the venue "dag van de wol" took place .

There was a lot of woolen yarn for sale, and all sorts of fleeces were sold. 

  

And there was this beautiful wool carding machine from "Kaarderij wollust".

Dyeing Wool

Spent yesterday with Lidy and Bertina in her studio to dye wool felt. What a great day, we should definitely do that more often!

Gisteren heerlijk de hele dag geverfd in het atelier van Bertina met Lidy. Dat moeten we zeker vaker doen!

Last week, I visited Leiden and ran into this beautiful knitting shop. The owner was just moving the 'spring yarns' to the bottom and the 'winter yarns' to the top to prepare for the new season. Great shop to visit, with a really nice selection.

Vorige week kwam ik in Leiden deze prachtige breiwinkel tegen, Ribbels in de Pieterskerk-Choorsteeg. De eigenaresse was net de lentegarens naar beneden aan het verplaatsen en de wintergarens naar boven om voor te bereiden op het nieuwe seizoen. Hele leuke winkel om langs te gaan met een mooie collectie.

Yesterday I spent the whole day on an allotment in Amsterdam. It was a magnificent place and I had a wonderful day.

Broomstick lace tutorial

Last Saturday I bought wool at the textile and fiber market in Doesburg. This wool is very good for the broomstick lace technique. I made a tutorial with pictures of the technique,  which you can find in the right column under Chapters.

Zaterdag wol gekocht op de textiel- en vezelmarkt in Doesburg. Deze wol is heel geschikt voor de bezemsteel haaktechniek. Ik heb een werkbeschrijving gemaakt met foto's  van deze techniek, nu te vinden in de rechter kolom onder Hoofdstukken.

 

Adding some new items to my shop

After looking through my stuff a little bit today, I found a lot of beautiful things I forgot about. I fell in love again with some materials, leftovers, and fabrics I found in my own room. I did realize though, that right now I don't have the time to use all these right now, and I do feel I need to make some space for all the new things I am making and planning to make. Therefore I've added some of these items to my etsy shop today, so that maybe someone else can use them to create something beautiful and enjoy themselves. Feel free to have a look around!

Toen ik vandaag even door mijn spullen ging vond ik allerlei prachtige dingen die ik vergeten was. Ik was weer helemaal opnieuw gek op sommige materialen, restjes and stoffen die ik in mijn eigen kamer vond. Ik realiseerde me wel dat ik nu niet de tijd heb om alles te gebruiken, en ik heb wel wat ruimte nodig voor nieuwe dingen die ik aan het maken ben of aan het bedenken. Daarom heb ik een paar van deze spullen op mijn Etsy winkel gezet, zodat misschien iemand anders ze kan gebruiken om iets moois te maken en ervan te genieten. Neem gerust een kijkje!

Verven in de tuin

Wat een heerlijke dag, we hebben de hele dag buiten geverfd o.a. viltwol Walliser Schwarznase, verschillende wollen draden en allerlei zijde materiaal.
En wat een eind resultaat, vooral de wollen draden zijn prachtig geworden.

What a lovely day, we spent the whole day outside dyeing wool from the Walliser Schwarznase, several woolen yarns and all kinds of silk material. And what a great result, especially the yarn is beautiful.

Viltwol naturel

Bij het kopen of het krijgen van vachten vraag ik me altijd af : hoe vilt dat dier, of hoe ziet die vacht eruit na het vilten? Tegenwoordig vilt ik een klein proeflapje en borduur ik daar de naam van het dier op: kameel, alpaca, of het soort schaap. Die proefjes bewaar ik aan een grote ring die hangt aan mijn werktafel.


When I buy I fleece I always wonder how its going to felt and what it will look like after felting. Therefore I now felt a small sampler and embroider the name of the animal on it: camel, alpaca, or the breed of sheep. These samplers I keep on a big metal ring that hangs from my work table.

Vandaag heb ik knotjes gemaakt van een streng wol die ik  eerder deze week op de Dag van de Wol gekocht had. Dit is wel een leuk werkje op zo'n regenachtige zondag als vandaag. Ik heb de bolletjes genummerd zodat de kleuren straks mooi doorlopen als ik de wol ga gebruiken.

Today I made balls out of a skein wool which I bought earlier this week at the Day of the Wool. This is a nice thing to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon, like today. I have numbered the balls so that the colours will follow each other up nicely when I use the wool later.
